PRO-6 to add 319 new cops in September
By Jennifer P. Rendon
ILOILO CITY — The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) is set to welcome 319 new police officers into its ranks next month.
If the schedule pushes through, the new additions to the PRO-6 force will take their oath of office in mid-September.
Ninety-four are part of PRO-6’s regular recruitment quota, while 225 are under the attrition recruitment quota.
A total of 507 applicants vied for slots under regular recruitment, while 1,009 applied under attrition recruitment.
The two recruitment programs were processed simultaneously, beginning with the acceptance of applications from March 20 to 30, 2026.
The following month, applicants underwent a rigorous screening process that included body mass index determination and a physical agility test.
They also underwent psychological and psychiatric examinations, physical, medical, and dental examinations, a drug test, and a background investigation.
An interview and final deliberation will conclude the application process, with applicants ranked according to their scores.
Brig. Gen. Alexander Mariano, PRO-6 deputy regional director for administration, serves as chairman of the Regional Screening Committee.
A representative from the National Police Commission serves as vice chairperson, while representatives from the Regional Peace and Order Council, Department of the Interior and Local Government, women’s sector, and Commission on Higher Education serve as members.
Police Maj. Rowena Hubero, deputy chief of the Regional Recruitment and Selection Unit 6 (RRSU-6), assured the public that their office processed the applications with utmost transparency and integrity.
“Our applicants are nameless and faceless. They are given QR codes. So, no one knew who are they unless you go through the master list,” she said.
The assignment of QR codes was introduced years ago to prevent intervention and outside influence in the recruitment process.
“Basically, they are ranked based on their merit and fitness,” Hubero said.
For this recruitment cycle, 10% of the quota will be allocated to female applicants.
Attrition recruitment is intended to replace uniformed personnel lost through retirement, resignation, death, dismissal, or other forms of separation from the service, while regular recruitment is intended to increase police strength.
