AS FAR AS its anti-illegal drugs campaign is concerned, the Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 said it is on the right track.
Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, PRO-6 director, assured the public that they’re keeping up with their timetable when it comes to its anti-drugs drive and all other forms of criminality.
“It may not be easy. But with the public’s support and cooperation, we can sustain our accomplishment,” Pamuspusan said.
Almost four months since he assumed post as Western Visayas’ top cop, Pamuspusan said different PRO-6 drug enforcement units and police stations conducted 639 anti-drug operations.
The period started June 27, the day he was designated as PRO-6 main man, until Oct. 21.
The series of operations led to the arrest of 965 drug personalities while four died during police operations.
Pamuspusan said they also confiscated 3,889.24 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu and 8,568.63 grams of marijuana. The total confiscated illegal drugs have a street value of P37.75 million.
To reinvigorate its campaign against illegal drugs, Pamuspusan said he instructed his subordinate commanders to refocus their neutralization efforts of high-value target (HVT) drug personalities.
It will be complemented with their massive demand and harm reduction drives, such as awareness activities and stronger collaboration with other agencies, local government units (LGUs) and other stakeholders on drug rehabilitation programs and barangay drug-clearing operations.
Earlier, Pamuspusan highlighted the importance of internal cleansing efforts in their anti-illegal drugs campaign,
“We should start at our own backyard first,” he said.
Since 2016, nine PRO-6 personnel were already dismissed from service because of their anti-illegal drugs involvement,
Seven other policemen were recommended for dismissal while two are undergoing summary dismissal proceedings.
