PRO-6 recaptures rape respondent after Oton custody escape
Police Regional Office 6 recaptured a respondent in a rape case barely four hours after he escaped from police custody in Oton, Iloilo, on July 15, 2026.
The escape occurred while the respondent was undergoing a medical examination at the Rural Health Unit in Barangay Poblacion West.
Police identified him as alias “Ronillo,” 26, a resident of Barangay Balud, Guimbal, Iloilo.
An initial investigation showed that personnel of the Oton Municipal Police Station escorted Ronillo and another Person Under Police Custody to the health unit at about 9:30 a.m.
The two were scheduled for mandatory medical examinations before their commitment to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
At about 10:41 a.m., Ronillo asked permission to use the restroom.
The police escorts checked the facility several minutes later and discovered that he had escaped through a restroom window.
The Oton police immediately launched a hot pursuit operation.
Barangay officials, barangay tanods, traffic auxiliaries and other force multipliers helped police conduct the search.
Authorities recaptured Ronillo in Barangay Poblacion East at about 2:40 p.m.
He was returned to the custody of the Oton Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.

Acting PRO-6 Regional Director Police Brigadier General Randulf T Tuaño commended the responding personnel and community partners for their swift and coordinated action.
“The immediate recapture of the escapee reflects the vigilance, professionalism, and strong coordination of our personnel and community partners. No individual who attempts to evade justice will remain beyond the reach of the law,” PBGen Tuaño said.
Tuaño directed the Iloilo Police Provincial Office to investigate the circumstances surrounding the escape and determine responsibility for any established lapses.
«“I have directed the Iloilo Police Provincial Office to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine accountability for any established lapses. We will continue to strengthen our custody and escort procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future,” he added.
PRO-6 said it would implement appropriate administrative and operational measures based on the investigation’s findings.
