Adjusting to the new normal, Police Regional Office 6 continues to offer online courses as part of the Regional Training Action Plan to enhance the knowledge and skills of every police personnel.
On June 17, 2021, the Regional Women and Children Protection Desk opened the Specialized Course for Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) Officers via online platform.
38 policewomen from the different provincial and city police offices region wide joined the training.
Police Regional Office 6 offers the Specialized Course for WCPD Officers yearly to police personnel who are newly assigned to WCPD. It aims to provide officers with working knowledge on how to handle cases involving women and children and other forms of Gender-Based Violence.
This training will also update the investigator of the revisions of the laws protective women, children and other vulnerable sectors of the society.
This 17-day course is a requirement for every police personnel assigned to the WCPD. It touches topics from Basic Concepts of Gender, protocols in cases of Gender Based Violence, Crimes Against Children, Juvenile Justice and Human Trafficking.
During the Opening Ceremony, Police Colonel Eric Dampal, Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division chief, welcomed the participants.
Lt. Col. Percival Zorrilla, Regional Special Training Unit chief, presented the participants while Lt. Col. Alexis Relado, Regional Learning and Doctrine Development Division chief, recognized the participants and declared the course opening.
Police Brigadier General Rolando F Miranda, PRO-6 director, recognized the importance of this course as many women still experience abuses from their intimate partners.
“You will be plied with the knowledge on different techniques on how to conduct interview to victims of abuses, especially children, crafting their affidavits and familiarizing with the protocols which will aide you in different scenarios that you might encounter as your render your duties as WCPD investigators,” Miranda said.
He also reminded the participants to be more patient in dealing with the victims of abuses.
“Just be patient and have an understanding heart,” Miranda added.
PRO-6 recorded a total of 420 cases of violence against women January to May 2021, which is 80 cases lower than 500 cases in the same period last year.
Cases of violence against children totaled 526, which is 82 cases lower than last year’s 608.
