PRO-6 logs 30% drop in focus crimes

ILOILO CITY — The Police Regional Office 6 recorded a nearly one-third decline in focus crimes during the first two weeks of September compared with the same period last year.
PRO-6 records showed that focus crimes fell 30.14% from Sept. 1 to 14, 2026, compared with the same period in 2025.
The number of cases dropped to 51 from 73 during the comparative periods.
The decrease was reflected in most of the focus crime categories monitored by police.
Theft posted the largest numerical decline, dropping to 13 cases from 19, or 31.58%. Physical injury cases decreased to 12 from 17, or 29.41%.
Rape cases fell to 11 from 16, representing a 31.25% decrease. Robbery declined to eight cases from 12, or 33.33%.
Homicide dropped to four cases from five, or 20%. Motorcycle carnapping decreased to zero from one case, equivalent to a 100% decline.
Murder remained unchanged at three cases, while motor vehicle carnapping recorded zero cases in both periods.
PRO-6 Regional Director Police Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said the downward trend was encouraging but emphasized the need to sustain police efforts and community cooperation.
“The reduction in Focus Crimes is encouraging, but our work does not stop there. We will continue to keep our police presence visible, respond promptly to concerns, and work closely with our communities to prevent crimes and keep our people safe,” he said.
Tuaño also reminded the public to remain vigilant and practice basic safety measures, including securing homes, vehicles, and personal belongings.
He urged residents to avoid unnecessary risks and promptly report suspicious activities or incidents to the nearest police station.
PRO-6 said the decline in focus crimes reflects its continuing efforts toward what it calls “Responsive, Trusted, and Transformative Policing for a Safer Western Visayas.”
