Amazon MGM Studios has announced that production is officially underway on the Prime Video series Tomb Raider, unveiling a first-look image of Sophie Turner in her new role as the iconic adventurer Lara Croft.
The newly released image highlights Turner’s fierce new look, incorporating signature visual elements closely associated with the Lara Croft character from the long-running Tomb Raider video game franchise.
The Prime Video series Tomb Raider is based on the globally popular video game property that follows the exploits of Lara Croft, a world-famous archaeologist and adventurer known for navigating ancient ruins and dangerous mysteries.
Turner leads the cast as Lara Croft, marking her first major television role since concluding her run on Game of Thrones, where she rose to international fame as Sansa Stark.
She is joined by an ensemble cast that includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein.
The series is spearheaded by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, best known for Fleabag, who serves as creator, writer, executive produce,r and co-showrunner.
Chad Hodge joins Waller-Bridge as co-showrunner and executive producer, while Jonathan Van Tulleken is set to direct and executive produce the series.
Executive producers also include Amazon MGM Studios, Crystal Dynamics, Waller-Bridge, and Jenny Robins through Wells Street Films, along with Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Dallas Dickinson through Story Kitchen, Michael Scheel and Legendary Television.
The series is produced by Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics, and Amazon MGM Studios, continuing Prime Video’s push to expand its slate of high-profile adaptations from established gaming franchises.
The Tomb Raider franchise, first launched in 1996, has previously been adapted into blockbuster films and animated projects, with the upcoming series aiming to offer a deeper, serialized take on Lara Croft’s origin and adventures for a new generation of viewers.
