President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was officially installed as the new chief scout of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) during the opening of the 18th National Scout Jamboree which officially commenced on December 11, 2023 at the Pintados de Passi Camp in Passi City, Iloilo.
In his message, the president expressed great enthusiasm for joining the 18th National Scout Jamboree, a significant event that holds a special place in his heart, recalling the days of attending the same event during his younger years, accompanied by his father late former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
He further highlighted the pivotal role of scouting in nurturing camaraderie and leadership among the youth.
“Scouting plays a vital role in fostering the spirit of camaraderie and leadership among your youth. With its unique blend of education, adventure, and fun, scouting continues to inspire our young people to become active and productive members of society,” he said.
Urging each scout to be a positive agent of change, he added, “Each of you here is called upon to help shape our future and create a better and more sustainable world.”
He also encourages the participants to make the most of the event.
“To our beloved scouts, remember that you are here not only to have fun, and to have an adventure, but to learn also about positive agents of change of which you can be part of,” he stated.
The declaration of the President as the new Philippines chief scout was marked by an investiture ceremony led by BSP National President Dale Corvera and witnessed by BSP Senior Vice President Emilio Aquino, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., Iloilo 4th district Rep. Ferjenel Biron, Passi City Mayor Stephen Palmares, and other key personalities.
The national event, running until Dec.17, happens only every four years.
With the theme ‘Youth Engagement: Sustaining Relevance and Strengthening Resilience,’ the 18th National Scout Jamboree aims to offer scouts a dynamic and enjoyable learning environment.
