Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are returning as Sally and Gillian Owens in “Practical Magic 2,” the sequel to the 1998 fantasy romance that developed a lasting following long after its original theatrical run.
The film is set to open in Philippine cinemas on Sept. 9, according to local promotional materials, while Warner Bros. has scheduled the U.S. theatrical release for Sept. 11, 2026.
The sequel is directed by Susanne Bier and written by Georgia Pritchett and Akiva Goldsman, bringing together filmmakers with credits that include “The Night Manager,” “In a Better World,” “Succession,” “Veep” and “A Beautiful Mind.”
Bullock and Kidman are joined by Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, who are also reprising their roles from the first film.
The new cast also includes Joey King, Xolo Maridueña, Maisie Williams, Lee Pace and Solly McLeod.
Based on “The Book of Magic” by Alice Hoffman, the film returns to the Owens family story with the sisters confronting a dark curse that threatens their family once again.
Studio materials describe the sequel as a return to a world of ancestral magic, family danger and supernatural mischief, positioning the film as a major big-screen follow-up to the original movie’s blend of witchcraft, romance and sisterhood.
The first trailer is now available and has fueled renewed interest in the franchise, which has become a seasonal favorite for many viewers since the original film’s 1998 release.
The producing team includes Denise Di Novi, Bullock and Kidman, with Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Donald Sabourin and Hoffman serving as executive producers, according to the film’s production details.
For fans of the original, the sequel marks the return of the Owens sisters to theaters nearly three decades later, this time with a larger ensemble and a story rooted in the next chapter of Hoffman’s magical family saga.
