BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) said the province is running short in poultry eggs.
Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Renante Decena said the province consumes 600,000 eggs daily. With production only at 400,000 eggs, the province buys from neighboring provinces in Panay and in Bantayan Island in Cebu to close the deficit.
The price of eggs in the province fluctuates every week, the PVO also said.
Decena said that bad weather also affected the appetite of layers which affects the size of their eggs.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the PVO monitored an increase in the farm gate price of eggs from PHP1.50 to PHP2 apiece.
In Bacolod City, Decena said the price of an extra-large egg is PHP8.50 apiece, PHP8 for large, PHP7.50 for medium, and PHP7 for small.
