Policeman Injured in Oton Motorcycle Crash

A police officer was injured in a road crash early on March 27 in Oton, Iloilo.

Executive Master Sergeant Darwin Caspillo, 46, of the Iloilo City Police Office, sustained non-life-threatening injuries after his motorcycle was hit by a bus in Barangay Cagbang, Oton.

Caspillo, a resident of Cagbang Village, was riding home via the Iloilo Sunset Boulevard when the incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. Thursday.

The Fuso Canter bus, which had come from Dumangas Port and was en route to Antique province, collided with Caspillo at the Barangay Cagbang intersection.

Caspillo was thrown from his motorcycle.

He sustained minor injuries to his head and other parts of his body.

Lieutenant Colonel Abner Jordan said the victim avoided major injuries because he was wearing a crash helmet.

Caspillo was discharged from the hospital hours after the incident.

The bus driver, Laurence Eraga, 44, of Barangay Malabor, Tibiao, Antique, was taken into police custody.

However, he was released after the expiration of the reglementary detention period.

Jordan said Caspillo has yet to decide whether he will pursue a criminal case.
