BACOLOD CITY – A 28-year-old police officer was wounded after he was accidentally hit by his service firearm in Barangay Rizal, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, last Sunday.
Police Captain Honey Labaro, deputy chief of the San Carlos City Police Station, said the officer stopped by his girlfriend’s house before heading home when the incident occurred.
Labaro explained that the officer’s Glock 17 9mm caliber pistol was tucked in his waistband when he decided to transfer it to his sling bag.
However, while holding the firearm, it fell, prompting his girlfriend to pick it up.
Labaro said the officer’s girlfriend handed the firearm back to him. But when he was about to put it in his bag, it struck his jaw and fired when he accidentally pulled the trigger.
The victim was hit in his right jaw and was taken to a hospital.
The officer is currently under observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after undergoing surgery yesterday, according to Labaro.
