BACOLOD CITY — A 32-year-old police officer was killed after his motorcycle collided with a 10-wheeler truck in Barangay Baliwagan, San Enrique, Negros Occidental on Thursday.
The victim was identified as Patrolman Kenneth Casuya, a resident of Barangay Miranda in Pontevedra town.
Police Lt. Dante Eslit, deputy chief of the San Enrique Municipal Police Station, said Casuya overshot a curve on his way home.
Eslit said the victim may have miscalculated his speed, causing him to lose control and crash into a truck heading toward E.B. Magalona town.
“He was supposed to prepare for his duty here when the accident happened past 5 p.m.,” Eslit said.
Despite wearing a helmet, Casuya sustained severe head injuries and was declared dead at the hospital.
Eslit said the officer had served in the police force for seven years and was assigned to Police Station 9 under the Bacolod City Police Office.
The 44-year-old truck driver is in police custody pending the decision of the victim’s family on whether to file charges.
