ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Police are conducting an in-depth investigation to identify the individual or group behind a series of bomb threats targeting schools across Capiz province.
The latest threat was reported at Sigma National High School (SNHS) in Sigma town and was allegedly sent via a dummy social media account.
The incidents bring to five the number of educational institutions disrupted by bomb threats since the start of December.
The first threat was reported on Dec. 1 at Ivisan National High School (INHS), where a printed note was found circulating on campus.
On Dec. 2, a message from a dummy account alarmed the students and staff of Dao National High School (DNHS).
The following day, Dec. 3, personnel at Sapian National High School (also abbreviated SNHS) reported receiving information that a bomb had been planted on school grounds.
Capiz State University (CapSU) Dumarao campus became the fourth target, with threats reportedly sent via a dummy account.
The supposed bombs were said to be located in the Teachers and Agriculture departments around 6 p.m. and were immediately reported to police.
All affected schools suspended classes and work while personnel from the Provincial Explosives and Canine Unit and local police conducted thorough inspections.
Authorities later declared all the campuses clear of any explosive devices.
Despite the negative findings, police urged continued vigilance amid the rising number of threats.
Last month, several schools and universities in Iloilo City and province also received bomb threats.
A minor was identified as a suspect in some of those earlier incidents.
