BACOLOD CITY – Authorities are investigating the deaths of a couple found with gunshot wounds to the head at their home in Sitio Manaysay, Barangay Cambayobo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental last Wednesday.
Police Major Ronald Santillan, the town’s police chief, reported that the couple’s neighbors sought the help of barangay watchmen after noticing the couple had not left their home since last Sunday.
“The neighbors heard a loud noise from the couple’s house on Sunday night but did not react until the couple was discovered lifeless the following day,” Santillan explained.
The victims, both farmers, had no prior records with the barangay or police, added Santillan.
The motive for the killings remains unclear, and the police are still determining the number of suspects involved.
When asked whether the incident could be related to insurgency, Santillan mentioned, “We cannot confirm anything yet, but we are not ruling out any possibilities.”
