Police identify minor behind Iloilo school shooting threat

ILOILO CITY — Police have identified the person behind an online shooting threat against an unnamed high school in Arevalo district, Iloilo City.

Police Col. Wilbert Parilla, director of the Iloilo City Police Office, withheld identifying details because the person “is a student below 15 years old.”

Police learned of the threat after the school principal reported around 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, that a concerned citizen had alerted him to a TikTok story.

The story was reportedly posted by an anonymous account around 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27.

The post contained the statement: “Tingnan mo yung highlight ko. Mag-warning kayo na kilala nyo sa (name of school) Iloilo City. Grade 10 ako sa (name of school).”

Another statement read: “I will be shooting in (name of school) on September 1, 2026.”

Police later determined that the TikTok post had been removed.

Parilla said police consulted the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development Officer and the child’s teachers about an appropriate intervention.

“We have yet to talk to the boy. For now, we don’t know what triggered him to post such a threat,” he added.

Parilla said investigators would also determine whether the child had bullied other students or had experienced bullying.

Personnel from Iloilo City Police Station 6 immediately inspected the school.

Police also increased their visibility and tightened inspections of bags and other belongings.
