The Estancia Municipal Police Station has identified at least one suspect in the rape-slay of a 7-year-old girl on Dec 19, 2022.
But Lieutenant Arniel Buraga, Estancia police chief, declined to name the suspect in the meantime.
Asked if the suspect is a town resident, Buraga confirmed that he’s staying in Estancia.
“Alam mo naman, maraming pabahay sa Estancia,” he said.
Police have gathered the testimonies of at least three witnesses – two children and an adult – in identifying the suspect.
“We have other suspects pero hindi nila kilala sa pangalan. They could be crewmembers from fishing boats,” he said.
Buraga said they might be able to file the case the first week of January 2023.
In a post-mortem examination conducted by Dr. West Edquilla, medico-legal officer of the Regional Forensic Unit (RFU) 6 based in Bacolod City, Ann-Ann was found to have been sexually molested by at least two persons.
The autopsy result also showed that the girl’s cause of death was an injury on her head after she was struck by a hard object. Her skull was fractured and the impact also caused her right eye to swell.
Ann-Ann’s body was found inside the concrete fence of a telecom tower at Barangay Gogo, just 100 meters away from their house.
Her blouse was rolled up exposing parts of her body, while her undergarments were missing.
Her short pants were found a few meters from her body.
