BACOLOD CITY — The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) strongly condemned the brutal killing of a 10-year-old girl in Sitio Pinasagan, Barangay Linantuyan, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Tuesday.
PRO-NIR oversees law enforcement in Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, called the incident a grave offense and emphasized that violence against women and children will not be tolerated.
“We share the grief of the victim’s family and stand with the community in demanding justice,” Ibay said in a statement.
According to police reports, the victim was found dead and naked in a sugarcane field bearing multiple stab wounds that morning.
A postmortem examination was conducted by the City Health Office to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities arrested a 33-year-old farmer later that day in Barangay Linantuyan following a swift follow-up operation.
The suspect was identified by witnesses, and police recovered a knife and other evidence during the arrest, and he is now detained at the Guihulngan City Police Station as criminal charges are being prepared.
The PRO-NIR assured the public that it will pursue the case with the full force of the law and is committed to exhausting all means to ensure justice for the victim.
The regional office also urged the public to cooperate by providing any information that may aid in the speedy resolution of the case.
Protecting children and vulnerable communities remains a top priority in PRO-NIR’s efforts to uphold peace and order across Negros Island.
