Police clearance applicant nabbed over case for non-wearing of face mask

Twenty-five-year-old Rolando Dorado, Jr. just wanted to apply for a National Police Clearance System (NPCS) for employment purposes.

But instead of a “no derogatory” result, the system revealed that Dorado, a resident of Barangay Compania Central, Molo, Iloilo City, has an active warrant of arrest against him.

Thus, he was apprehended and detained at the Iloilo City Police Station 1 at Gen. Luna Street, City Proper district, around 2:45 p.m. on Nov 16.

Major Shella Mae Sangrines, ICPS1 chief, said Dorado was taken aback after learning that he has a standing arrest warrant.

The NPCS database indicated that he was accused of violating City Ordinance No. SP-2957 S-2020 for failing to wear a face mask in public places, violation of Section 3 of Regulation Ordinance No. 2020-061 as amended by Sec. 1 Para 1 of RO No. 2020-085 and further amended by RO No. 2020-095.

The case is docketed as Criminal Case No. S-306-21.

Judge Enrique Zapanta Trespeses of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MCTC) Branch 10, Iloilo City, issued the arrest warrant and recommended a P3,000 bailbond.

The suspect is now detained after he failed to immediately post bail.
