Police await family decision in Ivisan electrocution deaths

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Police are waiting for the decision of the families of two people killed in an electrocution incident in Ivisan, Capiz, on whether they will file charges against the owner of the deep well site where the victims were working.

Capt. Rile Villariez, chief of the Ivisan Municipal Police Station, said police are investigating to determine liability.

He said a possible charge is reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide.

Police said the owner of the house contracted the two victims to drill a pipe for the construction of a deep well.

Investigators said the house owner’s father-in-law looked for an electrician to install a duplex extension needed for the drilling work.

Two people were killed after they were accidentally electrocuted while drilling for the deep well at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, in Barangay Cabugao, Ivisan, police said.

The victims were identified only as “Bert,” 55, a farmer from Barangay Malocloc Norte, and his son, “John,” 21, of the same barangay.

They were declared dead on arrival at Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital, police said.

Investigators said the incident happened as the two were drilling a pipe and Bert asked his son to plug in an extension wire for the drill.

Police said both were electrocuted.

The municipal rescue team responded and brought the victims to the town’s medical facility before transferring them to Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital.

Police said the extension wire is being considered as a possible cause of the electrocution, and the investigation is ongoing.
