A village official accused of violating the firearm law was arrested morning of May 6, 2021 in Oton, Iloilo.
Police nabbed Barangay Kagawad Rex Miranda, 45, of Poblacion East, Oton, at around 8:15 a.m. Thursday at Tagbac Sur village.
Officers of the Oton Municipal Police Station, Regional Intelligence Division 6, and 1st Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company collared the suspect by virtue of an arrest warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) docketed under Criminal Case Number 21-86353.
Judge Daniel Antonio Gerardo Amular of the Regional Trial Court 6 (RTC-6) Branch 32, Iloilo City issued the arrest warrant on April 30, 2021.
The court recommended a P200,000 bail for his temporary liberty.
According to police records, the suspect’s case stemmed from an incident that happened at Barangay Poblacion, East, Oton in November 2017.
Miranda, who was armed with a handgun, allegedly went to the house of the complainants. Alias Toto, who was a minor then, approached the accused but the latter allegedly fired his gun in the air while shouting the name of Toto’s father.
The boy immediately ran to their house to seek cover where he again heard another round of gunfire.
Miranda is now detained.
