BACOLOD City – The chief of police of La Castellana town said he foresees a peaceful election in the town on May 9, 2022.
P/Cpt. Rhon J Darryl N. Nigos made this statement Friday after the signing of the peace covenant by all candidates.
Nigos said the signing of the peace covenant was held at the Shrine of St. Vincent Ferrer after a mass.
“As long as the community and the candidates cooperate it will be peaceful,” Nigos said.
He also said he does not see intense rivalry nor threats to the peaceful conduct of the polls.
Leading the candidates in the signing of the peace covenant are incumbent Mayor Alme Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan who is running for a third term.
Mangilimutan is challenged by Vice Mayor Manuel Vera her former running mate, political ally, and close family friend.
Also participating in the activity were the candidates for vice mayor and councilors.
Meanwhile, candidates for various posts in Himamaylan City also signed a peace covenant at the Our Lady of the Snows Parish Church in the city.
The covenant signing rites – which also earlier launched the KASIMBAYANAN (Kawani, Simbahan at Pamayanan) – is a joint undertaking of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Army (PA), Department of Education (DepEd), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Catholic Church.
A short program was conducted at the city public plaza before the Unity Walk to the Our Lady of the Snows Parish Church.
Candidates present were led by incumbent Mayor Raymund Tongson who is running for reelection, and his running mate, incumbent Vice Mayor Justin Gatuslao; incumbent Provincial Board Member and mayoralty candidate Tinto Bascon of Team BAGA, and his running mate, Raymund Gatuslao.
Independent candidate for mayor Eman B. Lumawag also joined the ceremonies, as well as those running for city council seats.
