From January to June 2020, a total of 710 anti-illegal drugs operations were conducted in Western Visayas.
These resulted in the arrest of 1,014 drug personalities while two others died. PNP chief General Archie Francisco Gamboa said the numbers speak about Police Regional Office (PRO)-6’s performance in the anti-illegal drugs campaign.
“They’re (PRO-6) doing good on their performance. They contributed much to our anti-illegal drugs campaign,” Gamboa said in a press conference Wednesday at the PRO-6 headquarters in Camp Delgado, Iloilo City.
Gamboa said he saw no problem with PRO-6 as far as their illegal drugs operations were concerned.
For six months, Western Visayas police confiscated 5,728,06 grams of shabu and 422 grams of marijuana. Based on DDB (Dangerous Drugs Board) estimates, the seized drugs were valued at P66,374,351.
Last month, Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, Western Visayas police chief, said that some drug personalities still took advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the region was placed on enhanced community quarantine and general community quarantine, P7 million worth of illegal drugs were seized in 189 police operations from March 17 to June 12, 2020.
Based on the seizures, Pamuspusan said illegal drug traders had devised ways to go on with their illegal activities despite the health crisis.
But most often than not, he believed that these activities did not slip past the police’s radar.
