Bacolod City – Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan of La Castellana, Negros Occidental said plastic will be used as props by dancers in the yearly Bailes de Luces Festival (Festival of Lights).
Mangilimutan said the Bailes de Luces will open on Dec 14,2019.
Using plastics as flower props in the festival is part of the local government in recycling waste materials.
Mangilimutan said barangays gather plastic materials by exchanging 2 kilos of plastic for 1 kilo of rice.
This year’s Bailes de Luces will feature different elementary and high schools in the town which were clustered into groups.
Mangilimutan also revealed that the town’s Bailes Luces Festival will participate in the All Dance Intercontinental Competition in Rome, Italy in April 2020.
She said 12 dancers will compose the Bailes de Luces contingent and will maximize the use if hand props and headdress in the competition.
Bailes de Luces recently Wonju Dynamic Dancing Festival in the foreign category held in Wonju, South Korea.
It is also a past champion in the Festival Dance of the Panaad sa Negros Festival several years ago.
