‘Piña Futures’ Shines at ASEAN Textile Exhibit

Piña Futures: Weaving Memories and Innovation, a book by Dr. Randy M. Madrid of the University of the Philippines Visayas, was showcased at the 9th ASEAN Traditional Textile Symposium in Vientiane, Laos, from Nov. 3-6, 2024.
The book, a finalist for Best Design at the 42nd National Book Awards, delves into the history of piña as a cultural and global treasure.
It was one of two Philippine textile works featured, alongside Weaving Ways by Dr. Norma Respicio and Gayle Zialcita.
The exhibit was part of the symposium, which celebrated Southeast Asia’s heritage and craftsmanship.
Piña Futures was published in 2023 by HABI: The Philippine Textile Council and Far Eastern University Publications. (Written by Feaches Pearl Cabrobias, MEd ESL student, with sources from Dr. Randy Madrid.)
