BACOLOD City – A senior citizen was killed by a pick-up truck driven by Ayungon, Negros Oriental Mayor Dennis Amancio in Barangay Awaan last Friday.
Police identified the victim as Manuel Palallos, 67, of Barangay Tampocon II.
Based on police investigation, Amancio came from a conference in La Libertad town and was on his way home when the victim allegedly suddenly crossed the road.
The victim came from a family party and was also on his way home when the accident happened.
Amancio called for rescuers to take the victim to a hospital. But Palallos was declared dead on arrival.
The mayor also reported the incident to the police.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Kym Lopez, spokesperson of Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo), said that no charges were filed against Amancio as both parties reached a settlement.
