BACOLOD CITY – A new cancer care center is under construction in Bacolod City to address the needs of cancer patients in the area.
Bacolod Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya announced this during a public consultation on the city’s master plan and stakeholders’ development agenda held at L’ Fisher Hotel on Friday.
In a media interview, Gasataya said the facility is expected to be completed by April 2025.
The PHP34-million project, currently in its first phase, involves the construction of a two-story building within the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) compound on Lacson Street.
Gasataya explained that the initiative was driven by the rising number of cancer cases, particularly breast cancer, in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.
“This is in line with the national program for specialty centers,” he said.
Gasataya also mentioned plans to lobby the Department of Health (DOH) for medical equipment required for the facility.
“We are fast-tracking everything,” he added.
He revealed that an expansion of the building is also being considered to accommodate more patients.
