Residents of Barangay Nalbugan in Calinog, Iloilo are now benefiting from improved safety, mobility, and community facilities following the inauguration of major infrastructure projects worth PHP 26.25 million led by Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. on September 29.
The projects funded by the provincial government include the concreting of a 3-kilometer provincial road worth PHP 21 million, the installation of solar streetlights totaling PHP 1.75 million, and the construction of a covered gym valued at PHP 3.5 million, a project initiated by 3rd District Rep. Lorenz Defensor.
Residents expressed gratitude for the solar streetlights, noting that previously dark and hazardous areas are now safer for walking at night.
The newly concreted road has also improved transportation within the community, particularly for a barangay located 7 kilometers from the town proper and serving as the boundary between Calinog and Bingawan.
Barangay Captain Ronie Bulandra thanked the provincial government for other projects and support, including the Barangay Hall (PHP 1 million), Tanod Outpost (PHP 300,000), and equipment such as air conditioners, a session table, a computer, CCTV cameras, tables, chairs, and a television.
“Nalbugan is very different from the last time I visited. But this is not enough. We want to provide a lasting solution to your water problem,” Defensor said in his message, emphasizing the provincial government’s commitment to addressing the community’s pressing need for a reliable water source.
He added that the developments in Nalbugan reflect the province’s continuing efforts to promote sustainable grassroots development through infrastructure that enhances both mobility and quality of life for residents.
