PAVIA, Iloilo — A new five-story, 20-classroom building constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office is ready to accommodate at least 600 students at Pavia National High School.
The PHP 93 million facility aims to address classroom shortages at one of the municipality’s most populated secondary schools and provide a more conducive learning environment for students and teachers.
The project supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to expand educational infrastructure and address the nationwide shortage of classrooms.
DPWH Western Visayas Regional Director Denise Maria M. Ayag, citing a report from Officer-in-Charge District Engineer Perla S. Laguardia, said the additional building would help meet the school’s growing demand for learning facilities.
“Pavia National High School is one of the most populated secondary schools in the town, with thousands of students every year, thus, classrooms became insufficient to cater the whole population,” Ayag said.
The regional director emphasized that constructing additional classrooms is part of the agency’s contribution to improving the quality of public education.
“This additional school building is one of our humble means of supporting the academic needs of our students and teachers by providing a conducive, learning-friendly facility,” Ayag added.
Laguardia said the project represents more than a physical expansion of the campus, describing it as an investment in students’ education and future opportunities.
The additional classrooms are expected to ease overcrowding and provide teachers with dedicated spaces for conducting lessons and other academic activities.
“With this new building, we are hoping that our students would be encouraged to learn more, and our teachers would be focused on imparting knowledge and skills to the students without worrying where to conduct classes,” Laguardia said.
The five-story facility was inaugurated in August 2026 and is scheduled for formal turnover before the end of the year.
Once turned over, the building can be officially used by Pavia National High School to accommodate its growing student population.
The project forms part of the government’s continuing efforts to improve public school infrastructure amid increasing demand for classrooms.
Beyond constructing roads, bridges and flood control structures, the DPWH also implements public infrastructure projects such as school buildings to support essential government services.
The agency said investments in educational facilities are intended to improve learning conditions and contribute to the long-term development of Filipino communities. (DPWH)
