PHP 33.4 million drainage project targets Tiza flooding

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A PHP 33.4 million drainage project is expected to help reduce flooding that has long affected commuters and residents of Barangay Tiza.

Construction and improvement of the box-type drainage system will begin under contractor MBM Construction.

Engineer Abel De Pedro said Wednesday, July 22, that the project would help address flooding caused by heavy rainfall in the village.

The drainage system will measure 2 meters wide and 2.5 meters high, allowing it to accommodate a large volume of water.

De Pedro said construction would take about six months.

The Roxas City government earlier allocated PHP 23,442,673.062 under its 20% Development Fund for the 2026 calendar year.

The city-funded section of the project will cover 400 linear meters.

The Department of Public Works and Highways separately allocated PHP 10 million for an additional 130 linear meters.

The combined allocations bring the project’s total funding to about PHP 33.4 million.

De Pedro said the drainage project would continue, with an additional allocation expected next year to complete the remaining work.

He sought the cooperation of residents and motorists who may be affected by heavy traffic during construction.
