Learners and teachers in Badiangan, Iloilo now have access to new classrooms, gyms, and water systems following the turnover of PHP 26.2 million worth of school infrastructure projects on Aug. 29.
The 14 projects, funded by the Provincial School Board (PSB), were inaugurated in a turnover ceremony led by Governor Arthur R. Defensor Jr.
These include covered gyms at Tina Elementary School, Bingauan Elementary School, Agusipan Integrated School, Calansanan Elementary School, Iniligan Elementary School, Sinta Elementary School, and Tamocol Elementary School.
Water systems were also installed at Badiangan National High School and Odiongan Elementary School, along with new classrooms, perimeter fences, slope protection, and concrete pathways.
Defensor emphasized that even though education is no longer a devolved function of local government units, the province remains committed to supporting school development.
“Nothing is more important than the education of our children. We will exert all our efforts, especially through the special education fund, to make a difference,” he said.
Tina Elementary School Principal Maryfe C. Panaligan said the projects signify more than infrastructure.
“These projects are a commitment to providing safe, conducive, and supportive environments for our school children to learn and grow,” she said.
Parents and teachers also welcomed the upgrades, citing their value to both academic and extracurricular activities.
Federated PTA President Narciso Pios said the projects reflect “honesty, transparency, and integrity” in public service.
Master Teacher Joy Abelo added that the new gym will benefit not only their school but others within the Badiangan district.
Mayor Suzette Mamon said the turnover marks continued progress for the municipality and gives children an improved learning environment.
