It’s official.
Kevin Durant has just been traded.
After almost two weeks of speculation, the rumors finally turned out to be true as one of the best offensive players that the NBA has ever seen has been shipped for the fourth time in his career announced on June 23, 2025.
His destination? The Houston Rockets.
According to multiple reports closely monitoring the situation, the Phoenix Suns dealt Durant to the Rockets via a massive package, sending away Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the no. 10 selection of the 2025 Draft, and additional five second-round picks.
It was also confirmed that Durant gave the Suns a number of his preferred teams if the franchise will pull off the trade plug, and Houston was a part of his shortlist.
In retrospect, The Athletic’s Sam Amick already predicted the Durant trade to Houston last March and that he was already on the team’s watch list for over two years now.
“We know that the Houston’s of the world have been looking at Devin Booker and KD. So they’re certainly going to have a market and we’ll see what ends up happening with him this summer. But really bad across the board,” said Amick.
Fast forward to June 12, 2025, Brian Windhorst, ESPN’s veteran NBA insider, confirmed that Phoenix is set to place Durant in the trade window.
In March, Durant already got pissed at the Phoenix Suns organization after blindsiding him in several trade talks during the last NBA trade deadline.
On the final day of the NBA trade deadline, the Suns surprisingly put Durant’s name in the market and inquired about valuable assets, including a possible deal with the Golden State Warriors that failed to reach an agreement.
Durant admitted that he wasn’t informed about the ongoing negotiation that would’ve sent him to another franchise last trade deadline, and was also unaware of Phoenix meeting with Golden State.
However, as per ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the Durant trade is yet to be finalized until July 6, 2025, due to the terms under Green’s rookie extension contract.
If the trade pushes through, this will be Durant’s fifth NBA franchise since getting drafted by the Seattle Supersonics (now Oklahoma City Thunder) in 2007.
