The Phoenix Suns made their first major NBA offseason move after acquiring the Charlotte Hornets’ veteran power forward Miles Bridges on June 29, 2026.
To complete the deal, the Suns shipped Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neale, and the 2033 first-round pick in exchange for Bridges, the 2029 first-round pick, and the 2027 second-round pick.
According to ESPN veteran NBA insider Shams Charania, the trade helped the Suns save USD 20 million in taxes and freed up more cap space to lure additional veterans to the team’s 2026-27 roster.
Bridges became the second star Charlotte shipped away this offseason, following the departure of LaMelo Ball in a trade to the Minnesota Timberwolves on June 25, 2026.
The former 12th overall pick was Charlotte’s longest-tenured player and spent the first seven years of his NBA career with the Hornets.
For the first time in his career, Bridges will move to the Western Conference, where he will play with a retooled roster led by superstar Devin Booker, explosive guard Jalen Green, and two-way forward Dillon Brooks.
Bridges averaged 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in 77 games during the 2025-26 NBA season.
Phoenix nearly signed Bridges to a deal in 2024, but the trade failed to materialize after the forward activated the de facto no-trade clause in his contract.
Fast-forward to 2026, the Suns actively pursued Bridges, and the franchise managed by Mat Ishbia, Josh Bartelstein, and Brian Gregory got what they wanted.
A hybrid forward who can defend all positions because of his lateral quickness and athleticism, Bridges is expected to have an immediate impact with the Suns once the 2026 NBA season kicks off.
Now with a deeper roster, Phoenix will look to redeem itself after getting swept by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of last season’s playoffs.
