PHL Makes Historic Entry to Lacrosse World Championship

The Philippines women’s national lacrosse team has made history by qualifying for the World Lacrosse Women’s Championship for the first time after dominating the 2025 Asia-Pacific Women’s Lacrosse Championship in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.

The Filipinas secured their spot with back-to-back victories, crushing China 15-3 in their opening match and overpowering Hong Kong 14-2.

These commanding wins assured the team a semifinal berth in the regional championship and earned them a coveted place in the 2026 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship in Tokyo, Japan.

The unranked Philippine team stunned opponents ranked globally, defeating No. 19 China and No. 16 Hong Kong with ease.

They now join lacrosse powerhouses Japan, Chinese Taipei, and Australia as qualifiers for the world championship.

The opening match against China saw standout performances from Kalens Johnson and Steph Lazo, who scored four goals apiece. Building on this momentum, the Filipinas delivered another dominant performance against Hong Kong, controlling the match from the start.

The qualification marks a major milestone for Philippine lacrosse, signaling its emergence on the global stage.

The team aims to showcase Filipino talent and compete against the world’s best next year in Japan.
