PhilSys updates in W. Visayas as of first semester of 2022

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Region VI reported that 226,470 Filipinos in Western Visayas have completed the Step 2 Registration to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) as of June 30, 2022.

These registrants successfully completed their registration which involves the collection of their demographic information and biometric data. The said total is the accumulated registrations since the start of the second quarter operations for 2022.
PSA VI marks this as another milestone for the PhilSys program. Despite the challenges, the office continues to bring PhilSys even closer to everyone as more than 5.7 million Filipinos have finally registered to PhilSys since the start of its implementation in 2021.

PSA VI vows to further ramp up its Step 2 Registration operations in partnership with local government units and institutions such as malls, terminals, and subdivisions.

Among the strategies implemented by the Field Offices in
Western Visayas to fast-track the PhilSys implementation is to deploy registration to far-flung communities and bring PhilSys closer to Filipinos residing in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA).

Teams in the region utilized available modes of transport in localities to ensure that Filipinos will be registered to PhilSys.

Step 2 Registration operations are strictly adhering to health and safety protocols following the guidelines set by the Interagency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

The total registrations in the region per province for the second quarter of this year are: Aklan – 7,141 registrations, Antique – 13,962, Capiz – 28,839, Guimaras – 7,965, Iloilo – 73,563, and Negros Occidental – 95,000.

PSA VI is currently in the process of ramping up Step 3 of PhilSys registration which involves the delivery of PhilID cards to registrants in collaboration with the Philippine Postal Corporation (Post Office).

This June, Iloilo was among the provinces in the region that conducted a pilot-testing of the plaza-type implementation of the PhilID cards.

Meanwhile, the authenticity of a PhilID card and the information contained in its QR code can now be verified through PhilSys Check, a part of the digital initiatives of PhilSys.

PhilSys Check is a website launched recently which enables the relying parties to easily conduct identity verification among PhilID cardholders.

Banks and other institutions in the region are now currently integrating the PhilSys Check as part of their verification process.

PSA VI is also working on the PhilSys mobile application, which is the digital version of the PhilID that can be used in public and private transactions ahead of the physical ID card.
