JAMINDAN, Capiz — The Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division (3ID) and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) officially concluded their joint military exercise on Friday, November 7, at Camp Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz.
The Philippines–Australia Army-to-Army Exercise (PAAAE) “KASANGGA: 2025-02” aimed to enhance interoperability and combined capabilities between the two armies through synchronized operations and joint training.
The month-long exercise brought together hundreds of Filipino and Australian soldiers for tactical drills designed to improve combat readiness, operational coordination, and camaraderie.
Training activities included drone and boat operations, medical response, mission planning, and unified command exercises using various defense weapons and field techniques.
Lieutenant General Antonio Nafarrete, commanding general of the Philippine Army, served as guest of honor and keynote speaker at the closing ceremony.
Also present were Major General Michael G. Samson, 3ID commander; Lieutenant Colonel Noel Young, Australian assistant defence attaché to the Philippines; and Brigadier General Michael Logico, commander of the Army’s Training and Doctrine Command.
During the ceremony, Nafarrete awarded the Parangal sa Kapanalig ng Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas to several members of the ADF for their outstanding contributions throughout the exercise.
“It is often said that we train as we fight,” Nafarrete said.
“Training, regardless of the outcome, always serves as a valuable platform for learning. However, knowledge and skills acquired are worth little unless they are applied and put into action. I trust that the dedication shown throughout this exercise will be carried forward as we continue to prepare for the challenges ahead,” he added.
Young expressed appreciation for the advanced jungle and survival training conducted by the Philippine Army, saying it contributed greatly to Australia’s effort to redevelop its jungle warfare capabilities.
“The Australian soldiers will return home with a far greater appreciation of the impressive capabilities of the Philippine Army,” he said.
“I am confident they will go back as better jungle fighters and as ambassadors of the Philippine Army. We came as partners; we leave as friends,” he added.
Samson commended the strong partnership between the two armed forces, emphasizing the mutual benefits gained through shared experience.
“This exercise has not only enhanced our tactical capabilities and interoperability but also deepened the bonds of friendship and trust between our forces,” he said.
The completion of “KASANGGA: 2025-02” marked another milestone in the growing defense cooperation between the Philippines and Australia, underscoring their shared commitment to regional security and joint military development.
It was the second iteration of the PAAAE this year, following the first held in Mindanao, which opened at Camp Evangelista in Patag, Cagayan de Oro City, on May 19, 2025.
