Philippine Space Week 2026 set for Aug. 8-14

QUEZON CITY — The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) will lead a nationwide celebration of Philippine Space Week from Aug. 8 to 14, 2026, under the theme “Navigating Tomorrow.”

The celebration promotes public awareness of space science, technology and applications, highlights Filipino contributions to the space sector, and shows how space-enabled innovations support national development. PhilSA cited disaster resilience, environmental protection, agriculture, national security and sustainable development as fields where these benefits are evident.

Philippine Space Week was established through Proclamation No. 302, series of 2023. It commemorates the enactment of the Philippine Space Act on Aug. 8, 2019, and is held annually from Aug. 8 to 14.

This year’s theme reflects the Philippines’ growing presence in space through satellite development and the use of space data and services, which PhilSA described as part of the country’s journey toward becoming a more informed, resilient and future-ready nation.

PhilSA will hold the Philippine Space Week Exhibit, the celebration’s flagship event, on Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Quantum Skyview, Gateway Mall 2, Araneta City, Quezon City. The event is open to the public.

Visitors can explore interactive exhibits featuring PhilSA’s programs and missions alongside displays from government agencies, academic institutions, industry players, international partners and civil society groups. Hands-on activities, demonstrations and learning stations will show how space science and technology improve daily life and contribute to national development. A series of stage activities and public programs will run throughout the day.

The Aug. 9 stage program includes:

• 10-10:30 a.m. — Opening ceremony
• 10:30-11:15 a.m. — A Decade after Diwata-1, a commemorative program marking the 10th anniversary of Diwata-1 and its contributions to the Philippine space program and the country’s Earth observation capabilities
• 11:15 a.m.-noon — OpenDronePH launch, an initiative promoting the open sharing and use of drone data to support mapping, environmental monitoring, disaster risk reduction and management, and the validation of satellite-derived information through open-access drone imagery
• 1-2:30 p.m. — Ready for Lift-Off: Meet the Analog Habitat Waypoint Mission Crew and Experts, introducing the eight-member crew who will undergo the Analog Habitat Waypoint Mission in Batangas in September
• 2:30-4:15 p.m. — Developments on MULA and Philippine Activities in SpaceTech, a discussion on the country’s growing capabilities in upstream space technologies featuring an update on the Multispectral Unit for Land Assessment (MULA) from its technical lead, along with ongoing satellite and rocket development efforts across sectors
• 4:15-5 p.m. — Space for Society, where Fulbright Philippines and PhilSA showcase how academic exchange and applied research advance the space sector through the experience of Fulbright-PhilSA scholars
• 5-6 p.m. — Pathways in the Philippine Space Sector: Careers in Earth Observation, a panel organized by the National Copernicus Capacity Support Action Programme in the Philippines (CopPhil) and the Space Generation Advisory Council featuring young professionals and leaders from academia, government and industry
• 6-6:30 p.m. — Awarding ceremony for the Space Law Essay Writing Contest
• 6:30-7 p.m. — Kultura at Kalawakan: Space in Filipino Pop Culture, where Filipino writers discuss creating original stories about space through books and comics, with copies of their work available for reading at the exhibit

Two activities will run for the full week, from Aug. 8 to 14: the Philippine Space Week Virtual Exhibit, an interactive online experience that lets visitors explore virtual exhibit booths and learn about the country’s space missions and initiatives; and an online mission briefing for the Patalasan sa #YamangKalawakan Anechoic Chamber Experiment Challenge, which orients participating student teams on designing and conducting space-related experiments in a full anechoic chamber.

On Aug. 10, PhilSA will hold an international online forum on ASEAN space diplomacy to strengthen the bloc’s regional space cooperation, along with a public lecture on the development of Diwata-1 featuring experts who worked on the Philippines’ first microsatellite. A training session for drone enthusiasts and operators tied to the OpenDronePH launch will also be held that day.

On Aug. 11, PhilSA will sign memoranda of agreement with more than 10 higher education institutions, formally welcoming them into the PINAS Academe Network, followed by a training on integrating space science and technology applications into education, research, extension and community engagement.

On Aug. 12, PhilSA and the European Union will hold a knowledge-sharing session on interagency collaboration for use-case applications, drawing lessons from CopPhil toward the agency’s co-development framework and highlighting Earth observation pilot services.

On Aug. 14, PhilSA will launch the Space Business Innovation Camp, a mentoring workshop for entrepreneurs developing business solutions using satellite data and space-enabled technologies. The agency will also hold awarding ceremonies for the GeoGuhit: Move, Map & Make Your Mark challenge and the #YamangKalawakan Poster-Making Contest 2026.

PhilSA is also running three nationwide competitions as part of the celebration. GeoGuhit is a physical wellness and creative mapping challenge that uses satellite-based GNSS and GPS technologies, with participants creating space-inspired art by walking, running or cycling. The #YamangKalawakan Poster-Making Contest 2026 invites Filipino students ages 6-12 to visualize the theme “Space Garden: Growing Food in Space.” The Space Law Essay Writing Contest asks law students to propose domestic legal frameworks that would ensure the welfare of Filipino astronauts as the country prepares for future human spaceflight.

PhilSA is inviting national government agencies, local government units, academic institutions, private organizations, student groups and community organizations to host their own activities, such as exhibits, lectures, webinars, astronomy nights, stargazing sessions and workshops. Registered activities will be part of the official nationwide celebration.

PhilSA was created in August 2019 under Republic Act No. 11363, or the Philippine Space Act. It is the central government agency that plans, develops and promotes the national space program in line with the Philippine Space Policy, and is an attached agency of the Office of the President for policy and program coordination.
