As widespread flooding from monsoon rains continues to affect many parts of the country, the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) assured the public it provides coverage for hospitalization due to dengue and leptospirosis—two of the most common rainy season illnesses.
PhilHealth’s enhanced benefit packages now cover PHP19,500 for moderate dengue cases and PHP47,000 for severe dengue.
Coverage for leptospirosis has also been increased to PHP21,450.
These expanded benefits align with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to make healthcare benefits more accessible and impactful for all Filipinos.
“Kung tinamaan ng dengue o leptospirosis sa kabila ng pag-iingat, magpunta na po kayo agad sa malapit na PhilHealth-accredited health facility para kayo ay magamot,” said PhilHealth President and CEO Dr. Edwin M. Mercado.
“Huwag na po kayong mag-agam-agam dahil sagot ng PhilHealth ang malaking bahagi ng inyong gastos sa pagpapagamot,” he added.
PhilHealth also reminded the public to prioritize safety and hygiene during the rainy season to help prevent waterborne diseases and mosquito-borne illnesses.
To avoid leptospirosis, people are urged to avoid wading or playing in floodwaters, wash hands before eating and after using the restroom, and ensure access to clean drinking water.
Food should be properly cooked and prepared to avoid infection.
To prevent dengue, authorities advised keeping surroundings clean and using mosquito nets or insect repellents to avoid bites from dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
