The struggling Philadelphia 76ers pulled off its lone acquisition move days after the NBA All-Star break in hopes of adding more scoring punch to their inconsistent roster.
On February 19, 2025, multiple sources revealed that the 76ers inked microwave scoring guard Lonnie Walker IV to a two-year NBA contract worth $3 million.
Everything then went official when ESPN’s Shams Charania posted the update after his agent, George S. Langberg, said that Walker IV is headed to Philadelphia to team up with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George.
Walker IV has been rendering his services for the Zalgiris Kaunas ball club competing in the EuroLeague but chose to return to the big boys’ league.
Initially, Walker IV was supposed to stay in the EuroLeague and help Zalgiris flourish to a playoff team but Philadelphia’s phone call changed the scenario.
Last September 2, 2024, Walker IV and the Boston Celtics agreed to a deal, but his formal contract wasn’t materialized which led to him flying overseas.
Walker IV proved that he could score the leather if given the opportunity, delivering several explosive offensive games while he was still a member of the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Lakers.
In his stops at San Antonio and Los Angeles, the athletic guard played as a sixth-man scorer who was always called from the bench if the starters played cold from the offensive field.
Now, Walker IV will look to bring his consistent offensive game to the struggling 76ers who are currently 11th in the Eastern Conference with a disappointing 20-34 win-loss record.
Before the NBA All-Star weekend festivities kicked off, Philadelphia fell to a demoralizing five-game losing streak against the Heat, Pistons, Bucks, Toronto, and the Nets.
Equipped with a one-week rest, the 76ers will look to return to the NBA winning column today as they challenge the defending champion Boston Celtics on their home floor.
