Some members of the Philippine Paralympics team that are set to arrive in Tokyo for the prestigious sporting event tested positive for COVID-19.
The Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC) announced the development and will cause the delay of some personnel’s arrival in Tokyo.
According to the PPC, some team officials, coaches, and one para-athlete contracted the virus.
“It is unfortunate for us to inform the public that some officials, coaches, and a para-athlete of our Philippine delegation bound for Tokyo to participate in the 2020 Paralympic Games tested positive for COVID-19,” the PPC said.
After getting their positive results, the members of the PH Paralympic delegation were immediately put into isolation under the health and safety protocols.
“Despite this setback, we are confident that our athletes will give their best in the pursuit of their Paralympic dreams and to bring honor and glory to our country,” the PPC added.
According to Chef de Mission Francis Diaz, those who were cleared to fly to Tokyo with negative results already landed but they are still not sure if those left behind under isolation will catch another flight.
