The Philippine Women’s football team is already starting to prepare for a 2023 Women’s World Cup campaign right after the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases allowed football practices to resume.
After the Women’s World Cup announced that they are going to increase the number of qualified teams from 24 to 32, the PH Malditas were encouraged to intensify their training in the hopes of grabbing one of the additional slots.
As the International stage increased the number of teams, the Asian qualifiers will also increase the number of Asian representatives heading into the World stage.
With more available slots now open for the biggest football stage in the women’s division, Malditas’ goalkeeper Inna Palacios said that now would be their best chance to book a ticket to the World Cup stage.
“I don’t think there is any other chance. I think the best chance is now,” said the 26-year-old veteran goalkeeper.
The Malditas showed a strong outing during the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Jordan where they placed sixth.
