PFL penalizes Global FC for failure to settle wage issues

The Philippines Football League (PFL) decided to hand its participating football club Global-Makati FC sanctions after being unable to settle their unpaid wages to some players and employees.

Days after players and staff from the team complained to the office of the PFL regarding the allegations, it was agreed that the PH football organization will give the squad a grace period of 10 days for them to settle the issue.

However, after 10 days, the management of Global-Makati failed to pay a single penny to any of their players and staff which forced the decision of the PFL to penalize the club.

Aside from the PFL, the Philippine Football Federation (PFF), the biggest football body in the country, also said they will be slapping the team with sanctions.

“We gave them an ultimatum and an opportunity to make good on their promise. It’s disappointing. The league has to take appropriate action,” said PFL commissioner Coco Torre.

As of now, Mazinyi Management Ltd., the reported owner of Global-Makati still hasn’t put up any statement regarding the issue.

“We’re ready to put the sanctions on them and to protect the interest of the players,” said PFF president Nonong Araneta.
