The Petro Gazz Angels finally returned to the winning column of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) after defeating the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 20-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-17, on July 29, 2025, at the Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur.
With the much-needed victory, Petro Gazz just ended their PVL losing streak and improved their win-loss record to two wins and three losses.
It was a shaky start for the Angels after their unforced errors rewarded Choco Mucho with freebie points in the final nine possessions of the opener.
Despite having great looks in their cross-court attacks, the Petro Gazz’s spikers returned long balls that were received by the Choco Mucho backline with ease to set up more efficient counterattacks.
After surrendering the first frame, Petro Gazz regrouped and committed fewer mistakes to kick off the second set on a high note.
Spearheading Petro Gazz’s momentum-snatching rally was veteran outside hitter Myla Pablo, who provided four out of the team’s first nine points.
Pablo, who is yet to have a consistent scoring output in the ongoing PVL On Tour Preseason tournament, erupted when Petro Gazz needed her the most and shouldered most of the offensive department.
The decorated spiker stood out during the nip-and-tuck third-set affair, when the Flying Titans nearly took a 2-1 lead after grabbing a narrow edge.
Not willing to concede another tight set, Pablo put Petro Gazz on her back and fired two crucial points that gave her team the one-point advantage before reaching set point.
From that sequence, Petro Gazz never looked back and received a contagious roar from Pablo who dealt most of the damage to Choco Mucho in the first three sets.
Reinforcements came in the way during the match-sealing fourth set as the duo of Ranya Musa and Antonette Adolfo backstopped Pablo when Choco Mucho threatened to force a fifth and deciding set.
The Flying Titans were on track for a possible equalizing fourth frame win after blitzing to a 15-12 lead but Petro Gazz only needed one counter run to vanish their hopes.
Petro Gazz answered back with a demoralizing 8-0 run to take a 20-15 lead, wrapping up the game with a burst they needed to boost their chances of punching a ticket to the PVL quarterfinals.
Pablo led all scorers with 23 points built from 20 successful attacks alongside 16 excellent receptions while Nicole Tiamzon added 16 markers.
