Who would’ve thought that a team fresh off a championship title would go through a sabbatical?
One of the most successful franchises to ever join the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) will undergo an unexpected leave of absence, announced on Jan. 11, 2026.
Thank you for the wonderful memories, Petro Gazz Angels.
In an official statement posted by the franchise on social media, Petro Gazz confirmed that they will no longer field the Angels when the upcoming PVL conference kicks off, but their spirits will still remain as they are set to support the NXLED Chameleons and other PVL teams.
According to the Petro Gazz management, they will still continue partaking in some operations within the PVL through recommending their players, coaches, and staff to other franchises.
“Petro Gazz announces its decision to take a leave of absence from the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), marking a pause in its competitive participation after seven successful years,” the Angels posted on their official Facebook page.
With the recent move, Petro Gazz became the third franchise in the PVL to undergo a leave of absence, following the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers and the Chery Tiggo EV Crossovers.
Before taking a pause from the competitive pro scene, the Angels became the second-winningest franchise in the PVL, behind the Creamline Cool Smashers.
Since making its PVL debut in 2018, Petro Gazz has won a total of five championships—four in the PVL and one during the PNVF Champions League.
The Angels achieved their first-ever PVL title in 2019, during the Reinforced Conference, and followed it up with more import-laced championships and the 2024–2025 All-Filipino golden trophy.
“This decision was made with careful consideration, as volleyball has always been at the core of Petro Gazz’s identity,” the Angels added.
“Petro Gazz extends its sincere gratitude to its loyal fans, whose unwavering support fueled the team’s pursuit of excellence.”
As of this writing, several players from Petro Gazz are already set to secure their respective contracts with other teams, as well as their coaching staff.
