PESO-Aklan helps promote eco-tourism for job generation

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office No. 6 acknowledged and supported the Public Employment Service Office-Aklan (PESO-Aklan) in conducting its second quarter meeting highlighted by a coral transplantation at Brgy. Jawili, Tangalan, Aklan.

Fifteen (15) PESO managers and alternates, together with DOLE RO 6- Aklan Field Office (AkFO) staff submerged in the municipality’s crystal-clear water to participate in the coral transplantation activity after the presentation and review of PESO’s 1st semester’s accomplishments and the drafting of action plans to achieve targets for the second semester on Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), Public Employment Services (PES), Job Fair, and Career Guidance and Employment Coaching.

Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr., DOLE-6 regional director, lauded the initiative of the PESO-Aklan in including the environmental activity to the usual employment facilitation program of the PESO Managers.

“The Regional Office is impressed with the environmental concern of our partners and in taking the extra step beyond their usual responsibilities,” he said.

Rodriguez underscored that the goal of the PESO Managers to help the municipality restore the coral’s ecological system contributes to Aklan’s booming tourism industry which generates thousands of jobs in the region.

Eager to get involved, the PESO Managers were oriented by MsGlenda T. Sanchez, Tangalan Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO) on the steps to transplant corals into the coral nursery unit.

Aimed at mitigating the impact of global warming which is one of the main causes of coral bleaching, the Coral Transplantation Project is a joint project of the Municipality of Tangalan, Provincial Government of Aklan, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), University of San Carlos, Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and Aklan State University (ASU).

The meeting ended with the PESO Managers reached their goal with the coral transplantation and were updated on DOLEs programs and services which was discussed by PESO Focal Norma Janabon and PESO Alternate Joeuella C. Faiganan.

Also, Nicandro F. Mosqueda, Livelihood Development Specialist and Jabez Krismael B. Cabales, TUPAD Coordinator, discussed special topics on DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) and the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/ Displaced Workers (TUPAD), respectively.
