BACOLOD City The officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) told punong barangays (village chiefs) here that their best defense against people linking them in illegal drugs is their performance.
Senior Supt. Henry Biñas, who is also a lawyer, urged barangay captains present during the recent City Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) meeting to document their anti-drug campaign especially the pre-, during and post-anti-drug operations in their area.
During the meeting, barangay captains cleared their names and denied involvement in the use and trade of illegal drugs in their community after a former drug dealer mentioned barangays where drug selling is allegedly rampant.
Village chiefs reacted in alarm calling it irresponsible to accuse them without proofs. They said the allegations affected their families and put their lives at risk.
They asked the help of the police as they pledged support to continue fighting drugs in their area.
Biñas said the motive of the accuser is not known reiterating that the barangay official’s performance will speak for themselves.
He challenged barangay officials also to report PNP men who are engaged in drugs as he gave assurance that those who will be found guilty will not stay long in the service.
Biñas urged them to continue to do their jobs and accept constructively allegations thrown against them which is part of the risk of their profession.
Meanwhile, Jose Tomabini of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) echoed Binas opinion saying performance is the key to counter accusations hurled against you.
He said once a village chief is linked to drugs, one of the first things they do is to look at his or her performance in fighting drugs.
He also urged them to document their anti-drugs activities. (PIA)
