The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office of Iloilo (PENRO-Iloilo) recently concluded a two-day strategic planning and direction-setting workshop at Smallville 21 Hotel in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Led by PENRO Officer Salvador C. Manglinong Jr., the workshop brought together key officials to align the office’s operations and priorities for fiscal years 2026–2029 with the province’s evolving environmental needs.
Sessions opened with a presentation and review of the FY 2026 work and financial plan by planning officers from PENRO-Iloilo and its Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENROs).
Participants also worked on the FY 2027 budget proposal and developed forward estimates for 2027–2029 to guide programming and resource requirements over the medium term.
PENROs and CENROs are field offices of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources responsible for implementing national policies and programs at the provincial and community levels, including forest and watershed protection, coastal and resource management, and monitoring of land and environmental regulations.
In Iloilo, planning is typically anchored on safeguarding critical ecosystems that support livelihoods and disaster resilience, including upland watersheds and coastal areas that help reduce flooding and storm impacts in low-lying communities.
Officials said the workshop underscored PENRO-Iloilo’s push for organized, forward-looking governance in managing the province’s natural resources while strengthening coordination across offices for the next fiscal cycle. (DENR-6)
