Persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) or so-called jail inmates in Iloilo City have also been inoculated with Covid-19 vaccine as part of the vaccination program of the Iloilo City government.
Six senior citizens and 67 persons with comorbidities from the Iloilo City District Jail (ICDJ) Female Dormitory received Covid-19 jabs as of August 26, 2021.
Mayor Jerry Treñas ordered the vaccination of PDLs as the city aims to inoculate as many individuals as possible.
The Bureau of Jail and Management Penology (BJMP) Region 6 was placed under lockdown last year after several inmates and jail guards contracted Covid-19.
With the start of the vaccination among PDLs, the mayor hopes that the incident will not happen again.
“Last year, our BJMP was put into lockdown due to the surge in cases of both inmates and jail guards that caused an alarm for their welfare and uncertainty for their families outside the penology. To avoid the same incident from happening again, the Iloilo City Government started the vaccination of PDLs,” he said in a statement issued on Thursday.
The city government hopes to inoculate 121 female PDLs and 632 male PDLs in the metro. (ERS)
