The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Iloilo Station recorded more than 160,000 inbound and outbound passengers in Iloilo City and the province during the peak holiday travel period from December 20 to 26, 2025.
PCG data indicated a total of 71,882 inbound passengers and 89,533 outbound passengers were monitored across ports within the station’s area of responsibility as of 8 a.m. on December 26.
Despite the surge in holiday travel, the PCG noted that the passenger volume was lower compared to the same period last year.
In an interview with a local radio station, PCG-Iloilo Station’s Public Information Officer, Ensign El John Ga said the agency activated its Passenger Assistance Centers starting December 20.
They also deployed medical teams, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) units, K9 working dogs, and sea marshals in major ports to ensure traveler safety.
Ga added that no contraband was confiscated during the intensified inspections.
The K9 units were split into screening against illegal drugs and bomb detection.
As of Dec. 26, shipping operations have returned to normal, following the suspension of several trips in previous days due to Christmas celebrations.
Ga noted that no trip adjustments have been implemented so far.
The PCG reminded the public to stay hydrated while traveling, refrain from carrying prohibited items, and regularly monitor advisories through the official Facebook pages of Coast Guard Western Visayas and PCG Iloilo Station.
The agency said its heightened deployment at ports and terminals will continue until January 5 as part of efforts to maintain safety and security amid the extended holiday rush.
