BACOLOD City – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) activated another Coast Guard Station in southern part of Negros Occidental last Wednesday.
The activation of the station is vital as it is designed to improve the delivery of public service and performance of the PCG functions in the Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV) area of operation as mandated by Republic Act 9993 or the Philippines Coast Guard Law of 2009.
Captain Ludovico Librilla Jr., deputy commander of CGDWV, said the district
is currently expanding its operating units by establishing additional Coast Guard Stations as part of PCG capability development such as the southern Negros due to the increasing demand of public service in the area.
Presently, the Coast Guard Station in Bacolod is under CGDWV which covers the whole province that is composed of thirteen sub-stations placed strategically in coastal cities, municipalities and barangays of northern and southern Negros Occidental.
With the activation of the Coast Guard Station Southern Negros Occidental (CGSSNO), coastal cities from Bago City to Hinoba-an town can be catered since these are frequently visited by local and foreign tourists as its area is endowed with premier beach resorts, diving sites, nature attractions and numerous tourism engaging activities.
While the Coast Guard Station Bacolod will cater the coastal cities from Bacolod City to San Carlos City, and the whole northern Negros.
Meanwhile, a new building for Coast Guard Search and Rescue (SAR) Base in Hinoba-an town was also unveiled that day.
Commodore Hostillo Arthuro Ae Cornelio, CGDWV district commander, led the activity held at SAR Base Hinoba-an in Barangay Talagacay, in the presence of Librilla, and Lieutenant Junior Grade Carla Mayang, newly-installed CGSSNO acting station commander.
