ROXAS CITY, Capiz — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday, April 27, led the distribution of rice to 500 beneficiaries in Barangay Milibili, Roxas City.
Together with first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, former Sen. Mar Roxas, and other city officials, Marcos distributed 10-kilogram sacks of rice to 300 farmers and 200 individuals from vulnerable sectors, including senior citizens, solo parents, and persons with disabilities.
The distribution was part of the Local Government Support Fund, or LGSF.
The LGSF provides financial assistance to local government units for food security, including rice distribution to indigent households, especially during economic hardships.
The rice distribution program under the LGSF is implemented through guidelines issued by the Department of Budget and Management and the Department of the Interior and Local Government for the Assistance to Indigent Individuals or Families-Food Assistance-Rice Distribution Project.
The distribution was held before the mass oath-taking of teachers and school heads under the Department of Education Region 6’s Expanded Career Progression Program at Villareal Stadium in Roxas City.
The president delivered a keynote address encouraging educators to further strengthen the quality of education for learners.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara administered the oath-taking.
Around 8,829 participants included newly promoted educators from several schools division offices, including Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, Iloilo, Iloilo City, Passi City, and Roxas City.
The Expanded Career Progression Program is designed to create clearer career pathways for public school teachers by allowing the reclassification of positions based on qualifications, experience, and professional achievements.
Capiz Gov. Fredenil “Oto” Castro welcomed the participants to the mass oath-taking, which was also attended by provincial government officials of Aklan, municipal mayors of Capiz, and Roxas.
Officials said the scale of the ceremony could make it one of the largest mass oath-taking events for educators in the country.
